Mandela walking out of prison, not triumphantly, just happily, hand in hand with his then wife Winnie, was probably my generations 'JFK moment'.
In these times of unmerited hyperbole, Nelson Mandela is someone who really does deserve to be remembered as an inspiration.

Mentioning Nelson Mandela in a football blog is highly significant as he made such an impact in all areas of our lives. I met him in a lift at a hotel at Heathrow in 1992/3 and was in awe of him then, much as I am now. The world is a better place because of his life, his principles, his courage and determination for equality
